Being a true American, doesn't have anything to do with race, relegion, or creed.
Being a "true" American is a spiritual endorsement. The spirit, of Freedom, of Justice, and,, the Pursuit of Happiness. The right to bear arms , and live peacefully with all men and women, no matter what race, or religion or creed. The right to own property, and protect it from hostile entry. The right to raise my children and live with a set of principles, and direction of priorities that comes from within my soul, and a belief in myself, my Country, and my God, and to allow others to do the same.
Being a "true" American means believing in Freedom, and the right to protect that Freedom, at all cost. A "true" American has strength, courage, and the ability to endure in the face of adversity. The right to a democracy, of the people, by the people and for the people.
I believe in America, in the United States of America, and I believe there are still "true" Americans out there, willing to stand up and be counted. People who believe in the red, white and blue, in the right to prosper, grow, and live as we choose. A "true" American doesn't need to be told what’s right and what’s wrong, because he knows what’s right and wrong in the very depths of his being. He lives with a boldness, that only the strength of character from within allows, and with a grace and humility, that only the freedom of his religious pursuits can give him. Yet, strong and courageous, with the knowledge that he has done all and been all that he can be.
A "true" American still believes that we can right the wrong, and save the world from injustice, starting at home. He is a person who still believes that we are one nation "Under God", and that prayer works miracles. Who proudly places his or her hand over their hearts to pledge allegiance to the United States of America. He believes in the need for a child to play, for a mother to protect her young, and for a Father to teach his Son and Daughters the value of morals, and spiritual guidance.
In truth, a "true" American is the same today, as he was yesterday, in the days of our forefathers. One person, with one dream, and the strength to pursue life and liberty.
