The place I went to was Kenya with a group of people from my church. At the retreat, I was wondering what would happen if I were put into this situation, since I have everything in life and they don't have anything. Many African children were loosing their parents to the growing epidemic Aids. When I was there I would see all the children wake up with a smile on their faces as if nothing has ever happened. It made me want to do something about real life tragedies occurring in the world .
One day while we were all sitting around a campfire under the moon, singing songs. While everything was joyful and we were having fun, a local town black truck came; I thought it might just be a tourist or missionaries like us coming to the camp since we were leaving the next day and some other people were coming to help. So we continued on with the celebration with the children and families.
Suddenly, from that truck four large army men came out and started firing at us, we were all scared for our lives, Mothers were down protecting their children and everyone else ran panic stricken to hide since it was late in the night some children were asleep. The four men came, closer towards us and ripped children out of their mothers arms it was devastating little children boys and girls, all taken away just like that and there was no one to do anything about what was going on eventually they left.
The night was restless after that myself and the other people who came with me all gathered in one cabin and we started talking about what we had just witnessed, luckily we were all safe, as we continued talking one of my parishioners was telling us what they use the children for, the children kidnapped were to be used as sex slaves and entertainment for people, the boy were sent into pits to fight against other children to the death to keep their own lives, bets were placed on them to see who would win, the only things keeping the children going were the people telling them they'll set them free after other children were sold as prostitutes and the children that stood up to the enforcers were killed.
After hearing this my heart
dropped to the ground, because I realized that me someone so fortunate, didn't do anything to stop those people from kidnapping them, that's why I like to volunteer more often know and help children in poor countries so they can grow up to have a fulfilling life too.
