What is living green? Living green is to live in a way to conserve the environment. Many people think that living green will cause inconvenience, such as having less enjoyment, consuming lots of time and costing much money. However, this is just a narrow outlook on living green. In fact, living green can help save money, save other living things, save the earth and save all human beings, including yourself! But how can we live green? Here are some examples:
At Home:
- Turn off unnecessary electrical appliances. For example, turn off the light if it is sunny, turn off the fans if it is windy, turn off air conditioners if the temperature is above 25.5°C (77.9°F), and turn off all electrical appliances before leaving your home.
- Utilize all resources if you need to use them. For example, use the washing machine only if it is full of clothes, write on two sides of a piece of paper, use the water used for washing hands to water your plant, eat all the food you cooked.
- Reuse old things as many times as possible. For example, use old water bottles to hold water, use old plastic bags to hold things,. However, do not use an air conditioner for 30 years. You are waiting for it to explode!
- Use old things in a new way. For example, use old paper for draft, cut old water bottles to hold pencil or to hold flowers, use old clothes as floor-cloths.
- Reuse old things with little adjustment before throwing them away. For example, replace the old refill of a pen with a new one, replace the old battery of a watch with a new one.
- Dispose unwanted things in a green way. For example, donate unwanted clothes or toys to charity organizations, recycle used water bottle, used paper, metal cans.
- Eat less-processed food. For example, eat potatoes instead of French fries or potato chips. Also, eat more plant-made food instead of animal-made food. For example, eat rice, noodles and potatoes instead of beef, pork or chicken wings.
- Plant more green plants. For example, decorate your house with plants, grow more plants in your garden.
Outside Home:
- Buy durable products. For example, buy plastic cups instead of glass cups ( glass cups break easily).
- Buy reusable products. For example, buy reusable battery instead , buy wound watches and clocks, buy non-disposable cups and plates.
- Buy multi-purpose products. For example, buy a spoon that can be used as a butter knife, buy a television which has DVD-playing function, buy a multi-colored pen.
- Buy environmental-friendly products. For example, buy products with less package, buy energy saving light bulbs and other electrical appliances, buy non-CFC refrigerators,
- Travel with least pollution. Take public transport such as trains and buses instead of private cars, travel with bicycles instead of any other transports, or just go to work or school on foot!
Just try them out and enjoy your new green life!
