Sure we all know to recycle, and to not run the washer before 7:00 PM, but there are some other ways to conserve that you might not have been aware of…
Install Ceiling Fans
Way back when, in the earlier part of the last century, ceiling fans were used to combat the heat of the summer months. During the 1950's things changed as people made more money, many households were built with central cooling. We'll let me tell you that ceiling fans are making a comeback. They are a cheap effective way to cut down on energy costs and usage. I'm sitting under one right now cool as a cucumber.
Plant a tree.
If you become a member of the Arbor Day Foundation, you are entitled to ten free seedlings with your membership. They offer flowering trees, evergreens, and oaks. You can send them to other people as a gift or plant ten trees around your house.
Get rid of the friggin' junk mail.
There are sites on the web dedicated to stopping the mail that you don't want to get. Web sites such as proquo.com and others help you get rid of the mail that you don't want to receive. Trees will be saved my friends, trees will be saved.
Change those light bulbs!
Yes, we've all heard it! Change your regular light bulbs to energy efficient ones, but have you actually done it? Look around the house and see.
Go to e-waste and toxic chemical round ups.
That old computer can't go into the trash, and thrift stored usually doesn't take computers or computer parts. You shouldn't put paint or motor oil in the trash either. Just Google “e-waste round up” and your city and state to get info about roundups in your own community. You drive up and they empty your car of toxic trash -it is fast and easy.
