Global Warming Preparedness: Celebrate the 4th of July

Independence Day should be more than fireworks, barbecues, picnics and baseball games especially this coming 4th of July of 2008. How can we celebrate Independence Day this year?

While gathering with family members for the celebration, lets pray very hard for enlightenment, peace and healing in the world. Pray that Mother Nature does not become angrier with mankind for the abuse of the animal kingdoms and the eco system. Pray for guidance and practice silence and meditation on the day of Independence Day. Enlightenment through prayer helps us understand that excessive selfishness in our use of oil resources can lead to devastating effects in the world. Pray for understanding of what is forthcoming if we dont reduce the threat posed by climate change and bio-fuels consumption. Global warming caused by greenhouse gases disrupts climactic cycles in the agricultural sector. Climate change promotes environmental problems, creates water shortages, soil erosion, pests and diseases posing a threat to our food supply which can be devastating.

What can we, the people, do about all this? We, the people, can take a huge political action by buying seasonal food locally, this cuts the energy used for transporting foods and in term can greatly improve food safety. We, the people, can buy less packaged, frozen and processed foods because to upkeep these foods require larger refrigerators and this means more wasted energy. Eating more natural foods require the use of smaller refrigerators and smaller refrigerators use less electricity and can also reduce pressure on water, land and energy supplies. We, the people, can grow our own food and vegetable garden as we must prepare the grounds in the event that the rapidly growing demand for food in the rising Asian and Indian middle class population affect us directly.

This Independence Day, pray that we eradicate greed, dishonesty and unfairness; this is why the financial crash and collapse of the monetary system exists. What can we, the people, do as a whole to protect our finances in the middle of uncertainty in the mortgage and housing arena? We must learn to live simply even if that means making drastic changes to our lifestyles and general living habits. In reality all we need to live a pleasurable life is to supply ourselves with things we really need, put some money away on a regular basis and train the whole family to save. Of course, it is also healthy to splurge once in a while on things that makes us happy as long as we keep the habit of saving more and spending less.
