How Can We Slow Down the Rate of Global Warming?

People have to pay a price for social and economic progress. What we all have to pay for these is environmental degradation.

Change of climate would cause major but unpredictable disruption of the natural ecosystem of many floral and faunal species. They can also cause drastic change in agriculture which could be disastrous for human populations already on the brink of starvation. These are already felt around the world especially in the third world country.

The following suggestions can diminish to certain extent out problem of global warming.

  1. Sharply reducing dependence on the use of fossil fuels and greatly increasing the use of solar energy, wind power and geothermal energy. Environmental pollution is what society pays for social, economic, and industrial progress. Fossil fuels emit harmful waste materials discharged into the water, atmosphere, or land.
  2. Greatly slowing down the clearing and degradation of forests and undertaking worldwide reforestation efforts. Forest also plays a very important role in the ecosystem. They help protect the watersheds; conserve soil, and moderate local climate.
  3. Banning emission of CFCs from sources like industrial solvents, aerosol spray cans, plastic foams and leaking air conditioners and refrigerators. CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons) absorb and trap heat energy in the lower atmosphere.
  4. Sharply reducing emissions of other pollutants from vehicle exhausts and industrial power plants. These pollutants are destroying the vital shield in the atmosphere.
  5. Slowing population growth. Man has always been a polluter and until recently, he has persistently polluted the water, air, and land.
