John Lennon

(contd.)

This excerpt from his song, God, is a perfect example of how all his views had changed. Basically, this shows how he had changed completely. He especially with the last one, "I don't believe in Beatles", meaning he no longer believed in his former band. Near the end of the song, he went on to say, "I only believe in me. Yoko and me." This is a strong indication of his love for Yoko, and how they were the only two people who could ever change the way Lennon believed in life. To the average person, his songs [from his solo years] may sound farfetched and surreal, but when you actually pay attention to what he is trying to say in his music, you understand him, and sometimes it changes how you feel a bit; after all, Lennon did, in fact, manage to influence the way people thought about life, through both his music and his actions. Moreover, John Lennon said, "Surrealism had a great effect on me because then I realised that the imagery in my mind wasn't insanity. Surrealism to me is reality." Most people did think he was a little insane, but as he says here, Surrealism is his reality - he changed the way many people thought, even the way he thought was much different than before. His influences led to his importance.

His main importance is peace. However, it is not because he always encouraged peace, like the average person [as that is more an influence than anything], it is because he actually did do his best to achieve world peace. John Lennon never stopped aiming for peace - here is a quote from Imagine, "Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us, and the world will be as one." He knew people would think he is just another person trying to make a difference [without much success], but he wanted people to know he wasn't alone, that he had many people fighting for peace - and there were. John Lennon always knew world peace was attainable, and he never stopped trying to prove it, Lennon said, "If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace." This was part of his influence, but it was, nonetheless, very important - if all of us did, in fact, try our hardest to contribute to world peace, instead of saying how it's not possible, we could very well achieve world peace. John Lennon & Yoko Ono did all they could to ensure world peace. They made many songs together, which all had a great impact and influence on the world. Between conducting their "bed-in" at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, during 1969, to posing nude for one of their album covers, they did it all to help get world peace. But after Lennon's death, there was no more that he could do to create worldwide peace. Lennon had done all that he could do, and is still remembered to this day.

It's been over 27 years after his murder; you would think there would be no change in world peace. However, we still hear his music on the radio, and we still see commercials from groups aiding children from third world countries, and one of the most popular songs played during these commercials is Happy X-Mas. This was truly his most impacting, influencing, and important song - everyone loves it, and it is the only version of a song that is guaranteed to be playing each holiday season. Lennon didn't want to be the only person to have such a large impact in world peace - he wanted world peace, he wanted us all to want and achieve world peace. He would be proud of himself if he knew he'd made such a difference to the world, and I am positive he wouldn't change a thing. John Lennon said, "I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?" Lennon always believe in peace, he believed in a lot of stuff [except for things listed in his song, God], and we, today's society, have proven peace is possible, and is reality. Here are two more quotes from John Lennon summarizing what he always fought his hardest to teach others, "A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality." and "All we are saying is give peace a chance." He just wanted people to do their best, and to just try - because if he could get everyone to try, and all of us did try to give peace a chance, and the world will be as one
