Why make people get the thing they are going to do either way off the street from a gangster who could harm them or sell them something that isn't even marijuana when it can be a taxable substance available in specialty shops controlled by the Government? Why not make it something that the government makes readily available to anyone who wants it?
Marijuana is less harmful to your body then alcohol. Alcohol kills brain cells, whereas Marijuana does not. Alcohol tends to make consumers 10 times more violent and irrational then they would be off of the "drug". Marijuana if anything does the complete opposite. Marijuana enhances the good feelings in life, it makes the beauty of everything come out and let's you really appreciate it. It is a clean substance (depending on where you get it from now days, once again if the Government controlled it people would at least be 100% sure of what they're getting) that comes from the Earth. Unlike all of the other "Prescription Medication" or "Over the Counter Drugs" which are filled with numerous chemicals that will kill you allot faster then any amount of marijuana would.
If anything it is almost impossible to OD on Marijuana, try taking a pill or two over the recommended dose on the back of the drugs your doctor gives you. Doesn't feel so good does it? Legalize it and hundreds of thousands of teens won't be lured into the lucrative black market of the drug dealing "business" since the profit is gone.
Legalize it and the interest goes away
In Amsterdam I forget the percentage but I think it was around 10-15% less people then anywhere else smoke weed and do drugs. If they can just walk into a store and get it, it's not as fun or interesting. Think of it, have you ever tried to get some weed? Especially if your new to the whole thing. First you have to call up a friend, and then you need to make sure everything actually works out, you need to work out a place to meet, after that you actually have to go to the place and wait for the person to come. Then you make the deal go home and go to the next place to smoke it, meet up with friends have a session then find some trippy shit to do(repeat steps 1-3 if you get jacked) If you cut out all those steps and just go to "go to store walk in buy some leave" the interest is gone. It's like buying cigarettes. The interest isn't there but sometimes you feel like a smoke with a friend so you buy a pack or whatever.
Smoking weed is a harmless lifestyle
Smoking weed is an honest and "gentle" lifestyle (unless your one of the thugs who sells to make money off the little kids) It's nothing different then being a vegetarian or living a homosexual life or even being a Christian. You're not harming anyone by choosing to smoke "pot" No one should be arrested for smoking weed. Period. Yet we are now getting arrested in record numbers by the Government who says it's bad and to help get us over weed they throw us in jail for an absurd length of time. If anything why not send these same people to rehab? Or something along the lines of that if you're going to do anything. Why does the government continue to jail young people for marijuana related cases? We've all been in trouble by our parents, they ground you, they do whatever but don't you resent them for it afterwards? Everyone rebels at something at one point or another in there lives because of this exact reason.
Who says the government has the right to choose what we can and cannot put into our bodies?
Why is the government given so much power as to determine what we can and cannot do with out own bodies. They do not own us. They should not be able to regulate what we choose or choose not to do with our bodies. If anything This is the #1 reason why marijuana should be legalized. Pot smokers are persecuted on a daily basis because we speak out against the government. This in turn makes us public enemy number 1. And the fact is they have ALLOT more access to the media then any one pot smoker does so they can twist stories and turn objective stories into biased ones to make them seem like we are bad people.
We are lazy people. We have no goals in life. We don't want to go anywhere in our lives. We want drugs on the streets to harm teens and other people. We want gangs to rule our towns. We want the city to be overgrown in drugs like Heroin and Crystal Meth. No. We don't. All we marijuana users are asking is for our rights back. Let us make our own decisions and choose whether or not to smoke weed. Don't keep it away from the kids. Don't make it a mystery. All that does is make them curious and want to find out what is so special about it like what is happening now. I'm not saying to give your 8 year old a bag of weed. But be open with your kid and tell them the truth about it. Not what you see in those commercials on TV. All I want is to be able to keep my pipes, bongs, papers, weed in my room, but not have to stash it away from my parents. If they were open with me about it, it would be so much better which is what id like to see with other parents and there kids. Of course this is another personal choice as some may have there conservative views on Marijuana.
In conclusion, Marijuana smoking is far less harmless then other additives. Smoking a Joint is less harmful then smoking a Cigarette will be any day. A bong hit is a lot better then a chug of beer. If you don't believe me try it. Grab a gram. Roll it up. Light it up. Inhale. Exhale. Let me know how you feel afterwards. It's not the feeling only though, I don't want to be looked upon as a unknowing teen who just wants to get his drugs easily. That's not my point.
