Peace Does Not Exist

On advocates of peace and their common practices.

There is no such thing as peace, only varying degrees of war.

It surprises me when people go into tirades about peace, harmony and love. As if saying it and preaching it actually will do anything of value.

The vast majority of sources of pro-peace statements are the epitome of useless. Never have I seen a reasonable solution or any attempt at presenting a solution to war in these articles.

What I have seen on occasion is descriptions of protests attended and how much good they accomplished, or how wonderful their cause was. “We were protesting for peace, bringing the message to the world.”

The absolute ridiculousness of protesting for peace seems very clear to me. Fundamentally you are creating a war in the name of peace. What you have in a protest is two sides, the un-believers and the convincers. It is a battle for one to gain ground on the other.

You may say that it isn't the same thing at all, “nobody dies at a peace protest,” or something along those lines. History dictates differently but that isn't the point. Say the convincers do not initially gain any attention from the un-believers, what do they do but escalate their efforts and do something bigger to get their attention in order to convince them.

Take a look at most conflicts that have arisen throughout history and tell me the majority didn't escalate in a similar way.

The protests do not usually become full scale physical warfare, but is it peace? Do the protestors go home saying, “wow, what a peaceful place we live in.” If they do, why are they protesting? It is more likely that they go home thinking, “we really made a difference, showed people we care about peace.” The root of that mentality is conflict, us and them, an opposing side to their claims (thoughts).

Another issue that is consistent throughout anti-war or peace articles is blaming the world leaders or politicians for not having peace in the world.

For those who are convinced that the leaders aren't doing enough, take a look around your own little world. Have you eliminated all the conflict from your life? If peace existed it would start right there. If you are peaceful in your own life all the time, no conflicts whatsoever pleases by all means continue to blame world leaders. If you fall into this category St. whoever you are, you are probably a pushover and get taken advantage of on a regular basis. If you aren't a pushover and yet still avoid any conflict at all, please let the secret out! I do not mind being proven wrong, especially on this point, if you have the proof of the existence of peace I would love to see it.

What I really would like for people to get from this article, is the next time have the notion to break into a tirade of mindless “peace, harmony, and love,” please include with it some sort of an attempt to solve the problem instead of blaming it on somebody else.
