Many schools and states are considering removing the Pledge of Allegiance from there morning routine. Are we in America? Do we not have patriotism? The Pledge of Allegiance is not an affirmation of faith or a denial of heritage. The Pledge is specifically written and recited for a specific purpose.
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America”
It significantly means that the person saying it pledges their loyalty and duty to the United States. People who live here came here for freedoms and a better life. People who were born here have the privilege of having America being their homeland. Why would anyone not want to pledge their allegiance to this country? If you are living here, getting an education here, or benefiting from this great country then you should pledge your allegiance to protect the rights of the people here and pledge to stay loyal to this country. If a person is not loyal to this country and does not pledge their duty to the country then they do not need or deserve to stay in this country. They especially do not deserve to stand up in court or public arenas to speak out against saying the pledge. Why should we Americans listen to the few who are not loyal to this country? We need to speak up and protect our right to openly pledge our allegiance.
“and to the republic for which it stands”
This republic, the nation, is a great one. We have democracy and the right to freedom of speech. We have the right to practice our religions freely and with fear of government persecution. We have the right to education, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Problems arising in the country are dealt with through laws, activist groups, and other legal methods that would be persecuted in other countries. This country is unique, and a world power. We should be proud to have allegiance with such a country.
“one nation under God”
We are a country built on religious freedom. Most people in the world believe in a God. We call him different names because of our different languages and customs. If you do not call him “God” then use the name of your choice. “One nation under God/Allah/Adonai/etc” would mean the safe thing. We are one nation. We have our own beliefs. If you do not believe in a God it is your choice to simply say “One nation” and omit the God portion. Religious freedom in this country allows for this right. Suing courts and schools for saying the pledge when you have the right to not say the specific words that offend you, is ridiculous.
“Indivisible”
We will stand together and never again allow our differences to split our states in civil war. This part of the pledge demonstrates our unity and promise to support and help one another.
“with liberty and justice for all”
We are all equal. Men, women, children, brown, white, black, tan, olive, pink, peach, and red are all equal and deserve liberty and justice.
The pledge is pledging support for the country and for the people of the country. It is not pushing religion on people. It is not asking you to be disloyal to your homeland is you are an immigrant. It is saying that you promise to uphold the pledge and it's meaning for this country.
