Some kids are more gullible than others. Some seem to want to copy what they see more than others do. Children will do a lot of things, based on what they see. If you were to look at videos posted on video websites, you would know exactly what I am talking about. YouTube has a video of 2 boys literally throwing each other off balconies, putting one another through fire lit tables, hitting each other with ladders, chairs, and any other item surrounding them. This video proves my point that children shouldn't watch wrestling. Along with video proof, let’s review some killings of kids associated with wrestling
- In Dallas, spring of 1999, a 3 year old boy was accidentally killed by his 7 year old wrestling fan brother. The move that was performed that killed his brother was a move known as "the clothesline". The older boy was a fan of World Wrestling Entertainment's "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and "The Undertaker". Dr. Howard Spavik, a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on injury and poison prevention, says "its fairly common for children to imitate what they see on television, in particular, to imitate activities that look like fun where the consequences are not clear or their appear to be no consequences".
- Fort Lauderdale, Fla. March 9, 2001, a boy is sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after a judge refused to reduce his sentence. The reason he was sentenced was because he murdered a young girl, while trying to perform a wrestling maneuver on her. He is one of the youngest defendants in the United States to be sentenced to spend the rest of his life behind bars. Although the judge that convicted young Lionel Tate has began to speak with the governor about releasing the boy from prison, the pain will be remembered for the rest of his life, all because of wrestling.
Children shouldn't be allowed to watch something so violent on television. Have you ever noticed when kids watch something on TV they try to mimic some part of what they seen. They see some cartoon character using powers; they act as if they have powers as well. The same thing goes for wrestling. If they see someone getting thrown out the ring, they going to want to throw toys or throw another kid. Kids imitate what they enjoy. Wrestling is very addictive, which is a bad thing, considering the fact that it’s based on 100% violence.
