In recent months even the United States has begun feeling the heat as world food and fuel prices soar. The pressing issue is world hunger, statistics show that nearly 1 out of every 8 people on this planet suffer some form of hunger related problem, anything from malnourishment to outright starvation and death.
The question then is what can be done to end this tragedy, and I believe that the answers are so simple that even though they are right under our noses all too often we fail to see them.
The first of these solutions is philanthropy, basic good will, the well off among us sharing with the less fortunate.
Another potential solution is that instead of the western world being wasteful and gluttonous
that we conserve and ration our provisions. Instead of Mcdonald's serving one American 3 big macs we could instead send those big macs to three starving children in Zimbabwe. I know America is spoiled but the sacrifice would be worthwhile
Rice farmers can ship thousands of pounds of their rice crop to feed entire families in other countries for just a few cents a day. One organization that makes this possible is called Free Rice.
Further western countries can ship provisions(fertilizers, pesticides) to the African nations rather than just sending a few measly meals. It's one of those things "If you give a man a deer or fish you feed him for a day. but if you teach him hunting and fishing you can feed him for a lifetime."
As far as those that don't agree with hunting and fishing, go hungry for about a month and I'm sure you'll change your mind. Hunting just to hunt may be wasteful, hunting for "sport" may be pointless, but I don't see any problem with hunting for food.
There are many, many solutions to the world's hunger problem, there will always be the poor that's a given, but if people would help each other more there'd be a lot less poor people in the world.
