Taking the next step…
It's hard knowing how to get from where you are to where you want to be. You might simply be considering the next step, trying to overcome an obstacle, or longing to reach a deeply desired goal. This seemingly simple task carries the burden of discovery and success.
“How do I get there? How do I bridge my desires with my reality?”
Obviously, the answer to that is different for each individual. We all have unique goals, strengths, aspirations. We all have a puzzle of our own to make sense of. Certainly this completed image will ultimately be nothing less than our best expression of ourselves.
I'll start by telling you where I began. I'll tell you that no journey worth making will be an easy one. Despite our socialized tendencies, "easy" is not "better".
I'll tell you that the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. No matter how many set backs, obstacles, dead ends you may hit, it does not devalue the quality of your journey.
“No group moves en masse to a predetermined goal. There are advances and retreats, brilliant victories and stunning defeats. The battle goes on for decades against rain and fire and storm and hate. There are mountains to climb and rivers
to cross…” Lerone Bennett, Jr. Prologue (1965)
I'll tell you that the strongest institutions are not built by masterminds, they are built by people who surround themselves with a wealth of talent and skills.
And most importantly, a very subtle distinction between 2 small words: "can" and "will". “Sure, I can take care of that for you.” Most of us say this without ever giving it a second thought. But clearly, what you can do and what you will do are very different things. In order to take steps toward your ultimate goal, you do what you can. In order to achieve your ultimate goal, you do what you will. Once your will has become a part of your language, your behavior, and everything you desire, then you will…
Will what? You will whatever you desire.
