Five Ways to Force Your Body to Wake Up

Tips that will allow you to wake up in the morning and begin your day.

Move Your Alarm Clock

So that you're not tempted to push the snooze button, place your alarm clock on the other side of the room. If you want to stop the annoying beeping, you'll have to get out of bed, walk across the room, and turn it off. The mere exercise of walking will jolt your body awake and allow you to start your day. If you're feeling a little creative, you can purchase a flying alarm clock.

Duck Tape Your Snooze Button

Get a piece of duck tape and plaster it across your snooze button so that you won't be able to press it without tearing the tape off. Though your alarm clock may look unfashionable, this will ensure that you're not tempted to get an extra eight minutes of sleep... over and over and over again.

Turn on a Light

If your body ignores even the screeching of your alarm clock, try placing the light switch near your bed. When you're fighting to wake up, simply turn on the light. Photoreceptors in your eyes will react to the light, and you'll automatically feel more awake. Often, direct sunlight is better than artificial lighting. If possible, open your blinds and allow rays of sunlight to stream into your bedroom.

Reward Yourself Immediately After Waking

As soon as you get out of bed, do an activity that you enjoy. This could be a hot shower, a neck message, or consumption of a cream-filled donut. Because you'll be immediately rewarded, your mind will be more willing to wake up in the morning.

Try to Have Interaction with Another Living Being

If possible, talk to another human as you lie in bed. Communication will stimulate your mind and remind you that people who depend on you exist in the universe. Have no humans you can talk to? Try talking to your dog or cat. Even a pet may motivate you to awake from your slumber.

You have some interesting ideas here, Earthwolf, plenty to make us think, but I'm not sure we should be 'forcing' our bodies to wake up -'persuading', 'cajoling', 'enticing', perhaps! 'Force' sounds rather punitive. Surely we can treat ourselves with kindness, but still manage to get ourselves out of bed in time to do what we need to do?
What helps me to come to in the morning and get up is my special alarm clock which has a light that comes on gradually in the half hour before the deadline for getting up. It gradually and gently acclimatises by body to daylight. It has the added advantage that if I wake up and I'm not sure how close it is to getting up time, I have some idea by whether the light is on, without having to look at the clock.
I think of your suggestions, rewarding yourself is probably the most positive. The carrot can be more powerful than the stick!
