Five Ways to Improve Your Summer

Ways you can improve the quality of your summer.

  1. Know What to Consume

Don't be tempted to open a greasy bag of Doritos. Instead of snacking on the usual tripe, try something that will refresh you. Try fresh fruit with cool whip, peaches and cottage cheese, or a bowl of tasty sherbet. Processed food often contains unnecessary additives that may be both fattening and unhealthy, but snacks with fresh ingredients will provide the body with rejuvenating substance. For more information on healthy snack food, see this.
  2. Exercise

In the middle of a hot summer afternoon, it's all too tempting to indulge in a high-calorie shake or ice cream cone. Try to work off the calories by exercising three to five times a week. Build up a collection of exercise DVDs that you can pop in at 10:00 AM each morning. If you're not into the exercise videos, dust off your bike and travel to your nearest bike trail. Exercising will not only let you burn off excess body weight, but it will make you feel good, too, and thus increase the overall quality of your summer.
  3. Take Advantage of Garage Sales

If you're tired of shopping at the regular stores, tour the garage sales around your neighborhood. Often, people sell their old belongings for extremely low prices, and you may find something that you'll find useful for your home. Even if you fail to find a treasure, the activity alone will add some variety to the day.
  4. Get Rid of Old Clutter

Take a half hour each day to rid your house of old clutter. One day, concentrate on a drawer of your computer desk. The next day, get rid of the old newspapers lying in the corner of your bedroom. If you tackle the mess bit by bit, you'll gradually develop your home into a clean, orderly living space.
  5. Volunteer

If you have extra time on your hands, volunteer at your church, an animal shelter, or another place that aligns with your interests. By volunteering, you'll force yourself to pull away from the TV and computer to do an activity that will be both physically and mentally stimulating. Your efforts will be beneficial to both your community and your spiritual being.
