You ever wonder what makes someone a hero, well I have and I come to realize that this generations heroes are not people who I look up to. The heroes of today are athletes, actors, and musicians. We forget about the people who save lives everyday and protect us everyday, but I guess that is the thanks that they get. Famous people get all the recognition and I think that is an injustice to all the people who go out and save peoples lives everyday. I think of five things that makes someone a hero and they are:
- They go out of their way to help people
- They stand for what is right no matter what
- They stand by their beliefs
- They never give up no matter how hard it gets
- They never sell themselves short
I am not dissing famous people but all I am wanting to know is what do they do that makes them so special??? Terrell Owens a guy who is great on the field but has problems in his private life. I am not saying a hero should be perfect but I am saying that they should never let their issues away from work affect the quality of their jobs. What about the soldiers in Iraq?? What about the police and social workers that decide to do the right things everyday of their lives??? I am saying that Famous people are rolemodels in todays society and they all have their own problems. Famous people are not the heroes we need ,but the people that save lives and protect us should be. Over the years we have lost sight of what a hero truly is and pretty soon we will forget why the people who save lives are labeled as heroes. You don't see Terrell Owens, Albert Pujols, Lebron James, or Brett Farve going into burning houses and saving people,s lives do you??? Our view of what a hero truly is has become completely distorted and I hope you will consider what I am saying the next time you say that guy is my hero. A hero is someone who does the right thing no matter what the consequences could be because all they care about is what is right. Heroes are right in front of us everyday and we all fail to realize it and to me that is totally sad!!!! Heroes provide us with positive enviornments and help when we need it but we refuse to realize this simple fact. So tell me what comes to mind when you think of a hero? OH, wait let me guess.
- A guy who scores 100 points in one game
- Actor with 5 acadamey awards
- A man with three superbowl rings
- A man with 30 rebounds in one game
- Or it may just be someone who.........
- is very rich and famous
Just consider what I just placed in front of you and see if any of what I said makes any sense.
Just reconsider when and why you should call someone a hero. Just thought I would share my views on this issue with you.
