Gambling can be very stressful to deal with especially when money is tight in the family. Usually the gambler has good intentions of getting the family out of financial debt while they are only digging them deeper into their problems. They do not realize what they are doing until the problem gets over their heads and they just do not know what to do anymore.
Try and talk to your spouse with a positive attitude. Tell them your concerns of what they are doing, and see what their reasoning is for it. Most likely, they will also tell you of what their intentions were, and you can try to talk to them and tell them that you do not think that this is the best idea to help you out with money. There are lots of other ways that they can make money that are a lot less risky.
Call gambling hotlines and ask advice on your personal situation. Everyone is different, and maybe your significant other’s situation is better or worse than you really think. They will be able to give advice on things you can try or places where you can seek out help.
Setting limits with your significant other can be very helpful. Everyone has a hobby, and if theirs is to gamble, set reasonable limits where they can have fun still, and then no one is in financial difficulty. Usually, if you are within reason and willing to work with them, they will work with you on a compromise. If not, you may have a bigger problem.
