How to Definitely Break an Old Habit

There are very few things worse than an bad old habit. It just keeps you away from being a better person and doing things that should not harm you. This technique will ban all your bad habits permanently. It works with for all the time.

The very first thing you must understand is that human beings are lazy. It's not our fault, that's just because our body is very intelligent and programmed to use the least energy it can just in case of low food supply. Keep in mind that life used to be very tough and our bodies inherited the ability of saving resources just in case.

How to take advantage of that ability?

Here are some examples of my own.

  1. TV. I used to watch a lot of TV at night and that kept me away from working. What did I do? I cut the TV cable. Now even if I want to watch TV again, I will have to go to the shop, spend money, spend time, get angry and a lot of other things before the TV run again properly. It just so happens that the result of that effort (TV working again) it's not worth the effort so I naturally forget about TV.
  2. Watching movies on my computer instead of working. Sometimes I am too tired to work and I prefer watching the Lord of the Rings or Kill Bill. Solution? Uninstalled Real Player and all codecs. Now the movies just don't work anymore!
  3. Listening to music while working in fact kept me away from working. Solution? I got enough courage to make Shift+Del and I got rid of all my favorite music. It hurts in the beginning but now it feels so good!
  4. Drinking milk with chocolate that would make me a little sick because chocolate never liked me. Solution? Now I just fill the glass cup with milk and I drink it quickly before the temptation of adding chocolate.
  5. Feeling too lazy to write for Triond. Solution: Now my browser opens a Javascript page all the time with a character count button and that automatically makes me write. Firefox 3 also opens the Triond website too so I can publish it immediately. Notepad opens alone as well.
  6. Always checking My Space and Hi5 and other websites that you should not visit so often. Solution: I changed the password with a Password Generator and I didn't save that password. Now if I want to access My Space I have to walk a long way recovering the password and that's something I just forget about doing it immediately.

See? Is that hard breaking an old habit? Not at all! All you need is to know yourself a bit better and take advantage of being a human being. Humans have weaknesses and you should use them to your advantage.

Good one Red! Now you've broken all of your lazy habits! LOL. What if you're a smoker, I'm not. I know, get elastic bands and wrap about 50 around the cigarette packet so by the time you open it, you lose your craving.

Although this might sound a little extreme to many people I can tell you that there is a very large sector of society in need of drastic measures such as these to break their bad habits. I'm a doctor & I see it all the time. Most want to give up but don't want to have to work at giving up. Simple ways to make the undesired behaviour patterns more work than the end reward is an old tactic that has worked well for a considerable time now. Think up some more and pleeeeeease publish them. There are a lot of people who just might listen to you. They don't seem to be listening to their doctor so go for it.
