How to Set Life Goals

In order to get to where you want to go, you need a path. These four steps reveal the quickest path to your goals.

Too many times we feebly attempt to set goals only to give them up when they don't happen for us. Perhaps we give up when our goals don't materialize quickly enough, maybe we secretly don't think we deserve them. The so called "reasons" are myriad but they don't matter. What follows is a proven scientific formula for success in setting life goals that if it is followed completely will help us achieve our life goals efficiently.

  1. See Your Life Goal

The first step in setting your life goals is to see your target clearly. Not only see but hear, feel, taste and even smell what would happen if you had this goal in your possession right now. In order for your goals to be achieved, you need to know what you're looking for.

In order to see your life goal clearly, your mind must be cleared of everything that is cluttering it. It must be cleared of the negativity that is telling you that what you seek is impossible. A good way to do this is to sit in a comfortable chair and ask yourself the following questions:
    • What will I see when I achieve my life goal?
    • What will I hear?
    • How will I feel?
    • Who will be there?
Any other questions you ask yourself as you're visualizing your life goal can only help. It's also a very good idea to write down your answers on a sheet of paper or in a journal so you can review it at will.
  2. Keep It In Your Sights

Now that you've sufficiently visualied your life goal, you must focus your attention and energy on that goal and nothing else. Sometimes this is easier said than done. We all have multiple goals and we all want them to happen for us somewhat simultaneously. The trick to achieving our life goals is to focus on them one at a time. For instance suppose you want to lose weight. A great goal but you also want a raise from work. Which one are you going to focus on? If you said "both" then you are missing the point. By focusing on both goals at once you are splitting the focus on the two. 100% of your attention and energy should be focused with laser like intensity on one of the goals. When you achieve that one, then you can focus on the other.
  3. Hit it (Until You Hit It)

Finally, the last way to achieve your goals is to use the focus of attention and energy to make a straight line to your life goal. Figuratively speaking, don't look to the left or to the right, keep your goal in your sights and you won't be able to help achieving it.

What this means is that you must not lose focus on the goal you've set for yourself. In the example of losing weight, there are a lot of systems to do so. Some are better than others but suppose you chose one way because the research you've done shows that it's the best way to lose weight.

Once you've started moving towards your goal, you'll notice other ways that seem better and if you decide to start using that way, you've taken your focus off the goal. By tripping to and fro from method to method you've stopped moving towards your goal. Worse than that is doing nothing at all to move towards it, which is an action in itself.

By following the steps you've learned in this article you'll have taken the first steps towards achieving the life goals you've only dreamed of until now. This is only the tip of the iceberg, however. If you perform these steps diligently you'll be able to get what you want, any time.
