There is an abundance of books available that deal with finding inner peace. These books are helpful and filled with wonderful ideas and inspiration. However, I've found that in spite of trying to live in total peace and harmony with myself and others, people or circumstances sometimes creep in to disrupt my sense of peace.
Rather than deny these feelings I think it is better to provide a non-harmful outlet for them. Harboring anger, holding grudges, and false denial are physically and emotionally detrimental. So I urge you to let out the “uglies”, just do it peacefully.
Suggestions for releasing anger or frustration:
- Write the ugly out. Freely express yourself on paper. Once the anger has been released, rip the paper into tiny pieces.
- Artistically let the ugly out through painting, drawing, coloring, or even sculpting.
- Use the energy generated with anger to clean your home, car, or yard. Making positive use of angry energy will generate positive results.
- Sing the ugly out. Sing a song that makes you feel good or make up words to a familiar tune that lets you express your ugly feelings. (Just make sure no one is listening.)
- Walk the ugly out. Walking is good exercise. Start out briskly walking off the ugly feelings then as you calm down enjoy a calmer more serene walk.
- Jump rope to work the ugly out. Make up a rhyme like the jump rope rhymes you recited as a child.
