Loose Lips Sinks Ships

This saying “Loose Lips Sinks Ships” actually was derived from WWII Naval Fleets. They would say this to the men who were going on land to enjoy themselves because they were afraid while drunk and having a good time, they would give our military secrets to spies that could eventually use the information to sink the naval ships.

The same situation applies today but in business as well. We use the term today for people who tend to talk too much and may leak confidential information that will hurt the company. Some people don't even realize they are sharing the information because they are so honest and forget it's confidential. Other people are addicted to spreading confidential information and secrets. These people get a thrill when sharing this kind of information because they love to feel important and in control.

In both cases, the consequences are horrible. In large corporations, divulging confidential information, like company information, client information or insider trading, these loose lips can not only ruin a company but also their career.

Unfortunately, evening knowing the consequences of these actions, these people have a problem with oral diarrhea and continue taking the risk just to feel important. They continue spreading company news, confidential information and personal information on people. When they don't have any legitimate information to spread, they will actually create some kind of fiasco or conflict with someone or about something in the office to have something to talk about. They want to be the center of attention no matter what the risk.

These people don't realize that their loose lips can either cause good or harm. They either have to start spreading good news or just be quiet!
