Making Decisions When Opportunity Comes Knocking

Have you ever wondered how you keep letting opportunities pass you by?

If you have, then you are not alone. Many times, I have done just that. I am here to tell you, wake up, get on board and stop letting opportunity pass by you. Reach out, take a risk, improve your life and stop letting opportunities pass by you only to wish you had taken the chance when it is too late.

Let me tell you something about my life and why I feel I have made the mistake many of you have by letting opportunities pass. I was married, rearing two step-sons and a daughter postponing, postponing and postponing every day what could have been great opportunities until later. That opportunity will be back, I assumed. That is not the case. I had a former boss who told me to never assume anything and those words ring in my ear every time assumption sneaks in to my thoughts.

Not everyone is like me with the upbringing I had. Always respect the elders, address them as Mr. Mrs. Ms, Uncle, Aunt, etc. never by first name. You can call your friend by first name or nick name but never your elders. Respect your elders, say please, thank you, you are welcome, customer is always right, stay home, rear your children, etc.

You are possibly wondering what that has to do with opportunities passing. It is part of my upbringing and affected my decisions in the opportunities I missed.

In today's society, it is dog eat dog. Never plan on that business you work for at the moment to be there in thirty or forty years from now so you will be able to retire with a good pension or 401-k or IRA. (Remember the scandals of the nineties where the higher ups were ripping everyone off, taking their pensions, buying expensive bathroom items, etc.) Even if you have a good pension, 401-k or IRA, never assume it will be there or will be enough even if it is.

Look at every opportunity that comes your way, check it out, study it, investigate it and do not just let it slip by without doing your homework. Always save for that rainy day, take the risk now and go for that opportunity.

If you would rather let someone else take all the risks and never take a chance, you will never have the success that was meant for you. How nice will it be to be your own boss, set your own hours and enjoy the life that was meant for who? YOU! YOU! YOU!

If an opportunity comes along to work out of your own home, do not just assume that is for you. Check it out, study it, investigate it and do your homework. If an opportunity comes along to work on the internet, do not just assume that is for you. Check it out, study it, investigate it and do your homework.

But whatever it may be just do not assume that opportunity will come back you way again. Opportunities in life only come once, so take a chance and do not let opportunity pass by you only to never return.
