“An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves. “-Bill Vaughan
Either way... there are "many eyes on the clock..."
Is it me or are the gate keepers of time toying with us? I blinked and it was December; one can scarcely recall January ending and yet today I saw the decorations in the shops and a festive spirit quixotically ushering in a new year, and yet, in the same breath, eagerly sealing the vault on another.
All I can ask is “where did it all go?” and more importantly “where was I?” Ah aha ha .
I guess in the final analysis, the tape that we rewind of this year will tell a story, one where the cast and audience are one in the same…in each of us. Where, despite the obvious actions, the directors of this grand play are hidden within us…. in the guise of hopes, fears and secret desires. Invariably with so many voices a complex story was told, but one whose sole purpose was simply to deliver a lesson.
Whilst we know, in mere acquaintance, the view from the peaks of the year and are only too familiar with the darkness of the valleys we may have had to walk, perhaps as we view this year in our minds the one thing that must stand out, is not so much the highs or the lows, more what we will take from it.
What lessons were gleaned down to us mortals from the infinite pool of wisdom entrenched it each second after we have lived it. The passing of a year offers not only renewal of hopes and a renewal of energy but also a pause amidst the noise to reflect... a moment to take stock of our lives, our compasses and more importantly to chart a course for the year ahead...
I once read a passage that said... "the future is not a place... the future is not a destination... the future is a choice and the decision is now..." if indeed there is any truth to this then I guess we would do well to remember then that in every waking second lies the choice that changes the future... and changes our destiny. How did we choose this year..? How did we contribute to the destiny that has been fulfilled today..?
So folks…. as we “Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before…”
I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all the VERY BEST for the coming year. We stand armed with the relics and enhancements of 2004, let us all look forward, set our sights on new horizons and make haste towards them.
I believe the future is a wonderful place and can't wait to get there!!! It's almost cruel that we only get to unravel it one moment at a time… who knows what waits us…
I leave you this year with a thought:
“You learn that, for the most part, you get in life what you believe you deserve and that much of life is a self fulfilling prophecy…”
The quote is from a passage called the “the awakening” and it is an idea to which I gladly subscribe; that “much of life really is self fulfilling” and our fate lies not so much with the whim of random variables but much more in how we choose to live, how we choose to risk and more importantly what we hold as important in our lives.
Thus I hope I can get the “belief ball” rolling by wishing everyone:
A year of success, a year of growth and a year of fulfilment! Above all else may each day take you, that much closer to discovering your own greatness!!
Wherever the paths of the next 365 days take you, Hamba Kahle!!! God Bless!!! And TAKE NO PRISONERS!!!
See you on the other side!!
