Overcoming Shyness

If you are a bit afraid of people, strangers or not, or if you constantly refuse invitations to go out even without valid reasons, you are most probably shy.

Shyness does not necessarily stem from a physical handicap but is more of a habit. In other words, you create your own shyness. Chances are you will do it again and again, wondering like a fool and cursing yourself for being shy until you miserably give up the idea of change.

But here is a simple and practical solution. Simply stop behaving like a shy person. At first you may find yourself uncomfortable. You feel as if you are pretending or just forcing yourself. But soon you will get used to it. A belief can only be reinforced by acting on it at every opportunity until it becomes a habit. Make it a habit to go out and meet different people. Start being assertive and raise your voice. You have the right to speak and to be heard.

Don't make excuses saying this is not the right time and place to speak up. Only shy people do that. They cannot assert their rights and don't have self-confidence and are therefore, losers. Imagine that there's no other time and place and there's no way out but to break out of your cocoon.

Remember: your only problem is people. You are not shy when you are talking to your pet, are you? Why not do the same when talking to other people?
