Retreat

Retreat and strike back stronger.

Often times I always hear people use this quote “No retreat, No Surrender.”I thought probably when you are in the midst of war or battle and you have to defend your country maybe yes. But I think that depends upon your situation.

I knew a lot of friends who are being caught believing and saying “I'm not going to stop and I won't give up…But they end up totally in trouble. Sometimes it's hard to really accept that we need to withdraw because we thought it's a failure and it's the biggest shame on our part. But don't you know that you need to retreat so you can be successful?

We were in the midst of “relief operation” at the same time finding out friends and relatives who are missing after the killer typhoon hit the province and killed thousands of people mostly elderly and children. My friend Jonathan promised her aunt whose two sons are missing because of the flashflood. “He was crying and said I promise you I'm going to find my cousins and I'm not going to stop until I find them.”

Day after day we walk along the river bank hoping we'll find his cousins but we end up helping other people digging out their dead relatives from the mud flow. Two weeks passed by and then a month and no cousins was found. I told Jonathan, “It's time to leave the river bank.” He was very upset and said “No I can't leave I can't fail I will find them.” And he end up sobbing. We haven't found his cousins but we decided to retreat, it was not the easiest way but I believe “we need to retreat”.

We usually misunderstood this word as a failure. But thinking to live in reality it's a need. After Jonathan and the team left the river bank we realized how it's easier for Jonathan and the team to accept that his cousins are gone we may not know where they are physically but we knew that there was this Loving Creator who is taking care of them. I finally found out Jonathan was helping more people, feeding and teaching children in an amazing way to this time. “Getting away to get a way” was his motto.

We need time to retreat so we can reiterate who we are and strike back stronger, more successful, and happy. Not strike back still bitter and having a double trouble but ends up a wonderful person who is fulfilled and free.

Yes, there is a time for everything: a time to be born and a time to die.... a time to search and a time to lose.... Eccl.3 May God give his comfort and grace to us in every season as we draw near to Him.

Sometimes we do have to let things go knowing that God is in control and always has a plan for us. To retreat is an acknowledgement that we are allowing God to take over. Praise God in the good times and also the bad times.

In this life we always encounter spiritual rain but God(Jesus) is the Sun. Never loose hope. He is the reason to go-and continue this wonderful life. —Jeremiah 31:3 Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.

It's an awesome thing that at some point or another in life (and in the hectic part of it) that God's CALLING and His WILL at a moment it to simply retreat. It may seem "hmm okay, not bad" or what..but it can seem very difficult to do.
The beautiful thing about it though is that it's more of a one-on-one with connection with God and get to know Him more (in my sense and I believe as well as others) and knowing God more in itself is very powerful.

Many times we need to realise our limitation, even our failure, and accept God's way, without understanding sometimes, and choose to trust God in His goodness and faithfulness.

It's in the valley of frustration, and hopelessness that we can be strengthened by His power. "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love Him" (Ro. 8:28). So let us keep trusting Him!

Thanks for the article and sharing your thoughts.... I am one to \"never retreat\". Because of your sharing I am thinking about my life, are there any areas I should stop putting energy into?...

Yes, retreat in some circumstances is the best way to continue our work effectively. The important thing is that we should know the right time and the right method, when and know how to retreat. "Getting away to get a way" - I like it!

Sometimes, we must learn how to retreat as well as learn how to let things go by. For Jonathan, retreating in that situation does not mean he failed at all, on the other hand, he has won his broken heart. Isn't it wonderful?

God amazingly works in ways that totally puts us in awe. His Kingdom is one of paradoxes. The way up is down; to be great, one must be humble and to be able to get to the destination, one must slow down. Praise God for His immeasurable wisdom! :-) Take care, (Grace-Baguio)
