By doing all the speaking I was forced to do, I absorbed the mechanics as well as the thought process necessary to complete a successful presentation. This semester has been conductive in my development as a public speaker, more important as a person.
It is amazing how much I learned about myself, as well as what kind of person I am from watching the taped presentations of my speeches. I had never considered myself a speaker. Too, I never could express myself in public. Although, I knew what I wanted to say, I had trouble conveying the meaning to my listeners. Up until now, I was very hesitant about speaking in public, however by doing all the speaking I was required to do, I improved a lot. Today I am more confident speaking in public.
Needless to say, the demonstration speech took great effort. Although, I rehearsed the speech over and over, I was still a nervous wreck during the presentation. My posture was terrible, I made too much noise opening the containers and the spill was disastrous. I felt like crawling under a rock, however; I survived the ordeal.
Although, my informative speech was a lot better than my demonstration speech, I need to work on voice tone and pronouncing words correctly. I also need to continue working on my posture. I was unaware that I was shaking the pen in my hand. Most importantly, I will remember to never turn my back to the audience.
Actually, I was very comfortable with my audience presenting my persuasive speech. Unfortunately though, after watching the tape, I noticed I licked my lips twice. Apparently, I was completely unaware of that nasty little habit. It was very disgusting to watch. Most importantly, I will continue to work on the problem areas in an effort to become a more effective speaker.
In addition, public speaking has enabled me to transmit ideas better by thinking carefully about what I am going to say before I say it. Now the ideas I communicate are received better. The receiver understands what I am saying now when I first say it. Before taking this public speaking class, I had to repeat what I said twice in order for the listener to understand me.
Furthermore, by learning the mechanics, and the thought process necessary to complete a successful presentation, I am more confident with myself and more comfortable with my audience. Then too, I learned a lot from my three presentations. Also, in the future I will continue to work on voice tone, posture, and the very unpleasant habit of licking my lips in an effort to become a better speaker. Notably, I am very proud of my work most of my work that I completed in public speaking this semester. Pubic speaking so far has been a rewarding experience.
