Aahhh! Spring is in the air, the songbirds are making their way back, building nests and singing songs. The snow is melting and the bears and skunks are stirring about looking for food. Soon the insects will be buzzing about for the same reason as the bears and skunks…Here are some ways for you to make the best of the coming warmth.
- Take a moment early in the morning or in the evening, to absorb the scents and sounds of spring, the sweet warbling of the songbirds, the smell of the budding trees - (a bit sappy but nice nonetheless.
- When walking in the early morning or in the evening, make a point of stepping on the crunchy, “hollow” ice that forms on the shallow puddles.
- Leave colorful bits of string or even dryer lint in the trees for the birds to line their nests with.
- Leave a window open at night in order to listen to the spring peepers - they will be around all summer too.
- Close your eyes, face the sun and let it warm you to your very soul, it will drive away the winter chill and renew your spirit.
- Spring is a time of beginnings, this is a good time to start a new project (after the spring cleaning is done), or look into a new hobby or interest.
- Get your outdoor gear ready for summer. Whether it is camping, hiking or outdoor entertaining in your own backyard. Now is a great time to get great deals on summer stuff for the deck, lawn, garden and all those outdoor activities that you enjoy.
- Pick up the trash you find popping out of the snow in your neighborhood. When your neighbors spot you out there, they will likely take a cue from you and help out.
- Open all of the windows in the house on a warm day, and fill your rooms with the fresh, spring air scent. Nothing refreshes a home like a cool breeze blowing through it.
- Go for a hike or a bike ride or any other fun outdoor activity just to shake off those winter cobwebs. Take the family and friends along and make a day of it!
Once “old man winter” takes his leave, it seems there is just not enough time to get it all together for the warmer weather. Take a pause and a deep breath and the pleasures of spring will come to you. After a long, dreary winter, this time of year, although busy, should be appreciated for what it is - a time of renewal.
