Success

The one and only way to success is being highly competent.

The one and only way to success is being highly competent. It is more important to be mighty competent than highly competitive in order to be successful. The reason why it is more important to be highly knowledgeable than highly aggressive is simple; you must know information and be well-informed about situations and problems. If you are competitive, that's fine, but being highly competitive is not being educated. They are two different things. For example, if someone that's good at competing goes against a competent person on solving a math equation, most likely the competent person will succeed.

“Trying to be number one and trying to do well are two different things,” quoted Alfie Kohn. Kohn is right; he means that being highly competitive is unlike being highly competent. I agree with Alfie Kohn because being competitive, or trying to be number one, is different from being able to do well. In fact, being able to do well is more important than being number one because you will be more likely to succeed.

Some might say trying to be highly competitive will make you succeed; they say being competitive or trying to be the best will push them into success.

There's a law that many people apply to known as “the law of the jungle”. This law means that the individual must compete against each other to be successful. For example, there are two cats fighting for one rat; they must compete to get the rat and gain victory. Even though this is a law applied by animals, many people apply this law to their human behavior. They apply it by competing against other people in order to be successful, just like today. Some people think that being highly competitive is important so they will have a good judgment of self worthiness and some confidence. Being highly competent, or highly skilled, is important in order to be successful but without competition, you will get no where. Therefore, having both will make one a success. If you have one, but you don't have the other then you basically have nothing. Both of them make one a victory.

People who are smart know that being competent is the way to success start learning and succeeding. In order for them to be successful is to understand what they are being taught and they use it for passing their school work and exams. For me, being highly competent is important because the knowledge will be saved for later use. Most successful people are very intelligent and that care for learning, succeed. They use the knowledge they have learned mostly everyday and they are very successful without a hesitation. These people do not need to be competitive because they know they don't need to show off when people are already overwhelmed.

If an individual trains to be competitive, surely they will be able to have high self-confidence. Almost all of the people who think being competitive is the most important to be successful takes competition too far. The individual will only want attention, a sense of self-importance and to impress people. They try so hard to impress people that they do not even know the competition is over. That individual ends up as a failure. They tend to memorize instead of understanding problems, for example in Algebra. A competitive person may get far, but not as a competent person. The individual who chooses to be competitive will find that they are defeated and the game is over.

However, competitiveness in today's society, such as students applying for a college, is important. If they don't compete against others to get into a college they want to go, they basically won't go anywhere. The student must learn that having some competition will make them able to boost up some levels, but they must not take it too far. Therefore, having competent and competition together is great because having only competent won't really get them to success. People who think being competitive and competent are both equally important will get further; competence alone is not enough. So if you are competitive and smart, you may have an advantage, which is superior.

Being competent is important to success, but without competition you might not get so far. Having both competence and competition is the way of success. In today's society, a person who is highly competitive without knowledge has no back up and ends up a failure. So what if one were highly competent? One that is highly competent will succeed, but may not get so far because they may not know how to use their knowledge. If one is smart but not competitive, they are nothing' if one is competitive but not smart, they are nothing. Today people who have both competence and competition have success.
