Why Didn't I?

A message to consider for those of you who don't take time for the people you love.

There are moments in our lives we wish we could take back. We would like to relive some events in our lives another way if we could. Many of those times could have been really special, but we were too preoccupied doing something else; things when we look back on the choices we decided, we realize those "other things" were not so important. In retrospect of what we truly value, what we did then could have been done differently. We sometimes ask ourselves, “Why didn't I?” As examples:

Why didn't I try to learn more in school?

Why didn't I listen to my parent(s)?

Why didn't I pay more attention to my spouse?

Why didn't I spend more time with my parent(s) before he/ she/ they became ill and died?

Why didn't I help my brother or sister when he/ she needed me?

Why didn't I give more time with my children?

So many, Why didn't I???

Sadly, we are made aware of this question when we come face to face with the pain and sometimes by the grave; when we have felt the hurt or when someone we should have spent more time with passes on beyond our reach. The tears we shed for what has past is truly lost, because it is too late to convey what we truly felt.

There are not any great mysteries as to what and where we need to focus our concerns, if we truly care for those whom love and care for us. If those who we have affection for are important, then the time we have with them are very precious and we should accommodate the quality experiences we can yet have with them. By doing so, we can avoid one day asking of ourselves, “Why didn't I?”
