If you look into the section “National” of the SMH.com.au any time of the week, you will be faced with a bunch of eight to ten crime news and practically nothing else.
Either we, readers, have an obsession with crime news which the SMH.com.au wants to satiate or, as it appears, there is nothing else interesting to come under that heading, which I doubt.
I am convinced the nation is much greater than the SMH.com.au bunch of crime news under the heading “National”. And, in fact, how many acts of generosity and nobleness were performed today, everywhere?
How many car drivers did not react by sticking a finger today? How many school kids told their parents today how exciting it was to learn maths and science? How many employees concerned today, not just with performing their duties, but supported the best interests of their employers? How many of us felt today compassion for a homeless person and threw in a few coins to help?
You know, the list is endless and can be quite gracious. Crime stories, in comparison, are cheap and for rapid consumption.
I have observed people who only read crime news and looked disturbed and lost. On this point, how would you like your nation to be?
