Ever since the Columbine High School massacre in Littleton,Colorado on April 20, 1999 there has been undue stigma on youth that wear trenchcoats.
This stigma stems from the media's association of Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris with the so called "trenchcoat mafia" a group of people known for their heavy black trenchcoats.
However, according to sources unnamed the two were not actually affiliated with the group,
that were in fact a clique of gamers.
According to the source, Klebold and Harris were friends with only a member of the group.
Media frenzy over the trenchcoat mafia angle quickly spread like wildfire, because as the media often does they heard something that sounded like a good headline grabber, and ran with it.
Except the one friend they had in the group, none of the gamer clique actually had association with,
or knowledge of the shooters.
Years after, the scars of April 20, 1999 are still fresh in the minds of those who lived it.
Try as they might to heal, that is a hard task indeed.
This article is written for the purpose of debunking the "trenchcoat mafia" angle that was played up by the media those few short years ago.
It is to vindicate the group of gamers that was so viciously and unjustly persecuted in the wake of the Columbine massacre.
As I said in a previous article, dark apparel does not mean a dark heart.
