Natural law still holds true for the basis for many laws regarding our criminal justice system. “ “The basis for various existing criminal laws can be found in immutable moral principles or in some other identifiable aspect of the natural order”. “The Ten Commandments, “inborn tendencies,” the idea of sin, and perceptions of various forms of order in the universe and in the social world have all provided a basis for the assertion that natural law exists”.
The code of criminal conduct in society encompasses beliefs and ideas which contain morals and standards holding natural law to its truth. The bases for the rights and wrongs of conduct within society--- have been built upon moral principles which build itself upon natural law.
The simple rights and wrongs that guard against stealing, murder and rape are based upon natural law. The Ten Commandments are a good example of how the structure of the code of criminal conduct is entirely maintained within society.
“Criminal Law controls the definition and content of crime. The criminal code incorporates historical traditions, moral beliefs, and social values, as well as political and economic developments and conditions. Most important for our purposes, the law defines behavior(s) society labels as criminal”.
