There are many problems in our society today and one problem is pedophilia. It is a form of child abuse that is seriously recognized in our world today. Pedophilia has many meanings but the main meaning that people tend to know is an adult who is sexually attracted to young children. The term Pedophilia originates from the Greek word paedophilia erotica which was created in 1886 by a psychiatrist from Vienna, Richard von Kraftt-Ebing and he gave numerous characterizations pertaining to the behavior patterns of pedophilia. There are many names for pedophilia such as “boy lovers”, “perverts”, and “child molesters”. The first characteristic of a pedophile is a sexual interest towards children either when a person is older or just as they reach puberty. A second characteristic is a sexual interest mainly towards children. The final characteristic is a sexual interest for children that remains over time, never goes away, and gets stronger as time goes on.
The causes to why people become pedophiles is unknown but there is evidence that it can be because it ran in the families. It is still unclear if this is a learned behavior or if comes from the person's genes. Additionally, A person's development into pedophilia can be attributed to their male sexual hormones or the brain chemical called serotonin. Most pedophiles are of the male gender. Many psychologists would say that usually pedophiles are very friendly people because thy need to be friendly to get close to the children that they molest. Some of the ways that pedophiles lure children is by showing them toys and pets that they have or promising them many toys and things that the children would like. Another way the pedophiles lure children is through the internet witch is a widespread problem. Usually pedophiles were molested as young children and carry the abuse with them through life. They suffer from physical, physiological, and social damage because of their victimization and abuse from their past. They usually end up abusing those around them because it is who they know and are familiar with.

Another way the pedophiles use the internet is to engage in inappropriate sexual communication to children. Pedophiles also use the internet to interact with each other and share child pornography.
Recent investigations have succeeded in find many pedophiles and have led to their arrest. An example of an arrest and capture of a pedophile is in September of 1995 when the FBI created a website titled “Innocent Images” which attracted more then a dozen pedophiles that wanted to add child pornography and soliciting children on the site. There are many websites where pedophiles get together, almost like a convention. There are also many pedophile organizations such as NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association) which is an organization that wants to abolish laws against sex with minors as well as to release incarcerated men who are guilty of molesting children.
There are numerous commentaries indicating the controversial comments that have been made by the media with reference to pedophilia. Some commentaries indicated that society has stereotyped a person utilizing the name pedophilia. Indicating that the pedophilia is mainly used to describe an adult person who is attracted to children or minors but does not necessarily mean that they want or will have sexual relations with these children or minors - just that they are attracted to them.
There are many actions that are being taken to help with the deletion of pedophilia but it is an ongoing problem in society that will never disappear. Psychotherapy is the first typical source of help for the pedophile. Once they are therapy, the therapist can review and form a diagnosis as to whether this person may prove to be a good candidate for the Serotonergic medication. Serotonergic medications is when the male sexual hormone is increased and they are given medication to increase the serotonin in the brain, this may alleviate the sexual attraction or urge towards a minor or child. The third and final option of help for a pedophile is to be given medication that will decrease the person's sex drive.
Unfortunately, most pedophiles will probably take the smart way out and go through a psychotherapist and make believe they are cured to go and do the dirty deed again. Once caught again, they will just see another Psychotherapist and the vicious cycle continues.
With the lack of moral and ethics in the world today, the access to the numerous websites and information on the web and the greediness for money, pedophilia and/or sexual exploitation of a child will be difficult to eliminate. For whatever reason, people thrive on hearing or seeing violence, trauma, and chaos. This has become a way of life and because of this, children around the world will go on suffering the consequences of what the generations have made of this world.
