A body found in the Oder River in December of 2000 was that of Dariusz Janiszewski who operated a small advertising firm in the city of Wroclaw with no enemies , no criminal record and with no solid leads the case went cold after six months, as written a letter from Poland.

Three years later an inquisitive detective by the name of Jack Wroblewski re-opened the file only to find links that were missed in the original investigation. The file showed a list of calls made to Janiszewski's cell phone, some of which were made from a phone booth on the same street as Janizewski's firm. Detective Wroblewski and an associate traced the missing cell phone to a sale over the internet. The sale was made only four days after Janizewski's death by a man by the name of Krystian Bala. They were also able to connect Bala to the card used to make the calls on the day of the murder. The detectives learned that Bala was a 32 year old divorced father and author. They also learned that Bala had recently published a book called "Amok" very sleazy novel with pornographic and sadistic features containing very similar details to Janiszewski's murder. The narrator whose name was Chris is the English version of Krystian, Bala's first name. There were also other links such as Bala's curiosity in postmodern thinkers like George Bataille, Jacques Derrida and Michel Foucault . He also made up stories about himself so people would not be able to see the real person Bala was.

Bala was married to His high school sweetheart, Stasia in 1995 she later had a son in 1997. Being in university Bala could not support his young family and quit school to open a cleaning company which in 2000 went bankrupt his marriage too had failed. Bala finished his sleazy novel in 2003 after leaving Poland and travelling to finish it. The book was not successful and did not sell as well as expected, claimed Wroblewski as he discussed the details of Bala's life and the resemblance of the details of the book and the murder.

Bala returned to Poland and was apprehended and interrogated, he claimed police brutality during the procedure, which was denied by Wroblewski. He was arrested for the murder of Janiszewski. A polygraph was performed but found inconclusive. A continued investigation showed an even darker side to Bala's life during his divorce and fallen business at the same time as the murder. Another interesting fact was told by an acquaintance of Bala's ex-wife, that she had met with Janiszewski in a bar and Bala had gone into a rage of Jealousy while confronting her.

Bala was tried and convicted for the murder of Dariusz Janiszewski he was sentenced to twenty-five years in prison. "De Liryk" is Bala's new novel, which he is writing in prison according to a source who has visited him there.
