School Shootings

(contd.)

I strongly believe that the act of shooting in schools is absolutely horrifying and deplorable. I am against any kind of weaponry that is found in our schools which threatens the life of the students. I believe that everyone should work together to prevent these violent acts from ever happening in our schools. I understand now that the children who commit these acts of school violence are usually much more self-centered than the average child. The children also sometimes suffer from pain that they get from home or from school.

There are many ways of prevention so that these school shootings can never happen in our schools again. We can develop better gun control laws and enforce them. We can also hire security guards and install metal detectors to keep the weapons out of schools. We can confiscate the weapons owned by people and begin to substitute all fire arms used for protection with the new Taser weapons. Most importantly, we can get the psychological help these troubled children so desperately need. If there is no way for children to get their hands on these weapons, then the school attacks can never take place.

Before I conclude, I would like to end with some of the lyrics of a song called ?Youth of The Nation? by the popular band P.O.D. This song, and others on the album were created as a tribute to the lives that were lost at Columbine and many other school shootings around the nation. It was written by the lead singer of P.O.D, Paul Joshua Sandoval.

Last day of the rest of my life,
I wish I would've known
Cause I didn't kiss my mama goodbye.
I didn't tell her that I loved her and how much I care,
Or thank my pops for all the talks
And all the wisdom he shared.
Unaware, I just did what I always do.
Everyday, the same routine
Before I skate off to school.
But who knew that this day wasn't like the rest,
Instead of taking a test
I took two to the chest.
Call me blind, but I didn't see it coming
Everybody was running
But I couldn't hear nothing
Except gun blasts, it happened so fast.
I don't really know this kid
Even though I sit by him in class.
Maybe this kid was reaching out for love.
Or maybe for a moment
He forgot who he was.
Or maybe this kid just wanted to be hugged.
Whatever it was,
I know it's because...
Thank you for your time.

Thanks for the comment. One thing that I forgot to add was that ironically, as soon as I finished this article, a few days later the largest school massacre occurred at Virginia Tech.
