These keys may give you free gas, but more money flying out of others pockets. Criminals have found out a way to steal gas from gas stations using the "golden" keys.
Criminals use one key to open the outside door, another to open the inside door, punch in a code on a key pad, and they could just pull any pump and start fueling their tanks. Though it could be obvious to others pumping gas, it won't be to those working inside the thrift shop.
These keys don't only work for one particular gas station. They are ‘universal', so they work at nearly every other gas station.
Now that the owners to these gas stations are aware, they are going to extreme measures to prevent gas being stolen. They are changing the locks and putting metal rods over the doors. They are also removing the keypad. The State Petroleum Marketers Association told station owners that they need to consider installing pad locks and fence in their gas dispensers. Another clever way to solve this is to change to keypad code.
This crime could easily push a station out of business. These keys could also open the door to cause more pain at the pump. So it could be soon when you start seeing metal bars guarding the pump so that all you have access to is the credit card slot and the nozzle.
