The world of the paedophile is getting smaller and smaller and one of the reasons is that news is being shared more rapidly because computers can relay updated information with lightening speed. ceop.gov.uk is a site that has been launched in the United Kingdom and it publishes the name and pictures of convicted child sex offenders who have gone ‘missing’ and are not accepting their notification requirements. The requirement is that convicted offenders must register there whereabouts with the police at all times and it is illegal not to do so.
Jim Gamble is the chief executive for The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre. He is hoping that initiative will make it easier for people to identify these criminals and "If you are a convicted offender and think you can escape your notification requirements, or think you can move out of your region and go missing, then think again." There will be fewer places for these offenders to hide.
This site has simulated the successful Crimestoppers Most Wanted site which has proven itself to be a success with 24 arrests occurring since it began last year and over three million hits on the site. It seems that this global approach to catch criminals is definitely having an effect.
