Violence in Video Games

Does banning the video game will reduce violence or crime in today's society?

Today, video game is not only an entertainment, but it is also a very lucrative industry. An industry that worth multi-billion dollar. 15 years ago, game developers targeted kids and teens as their main consumer but now we can see adults playing video games too. We all are aware of the “console wars”. Rivalries between 3 major companies become more interesting from year to year.

In-spite of those hypes, the video game industry has its own darker side. Some people think that playing a video game is a waste of money and time while some other people think that the video game should be banned because it contains too much violence and sex scene. It has been said that a video game is the main cause of violence in society. But is it true?

I must admit that I'm a gamer or a video game fan. I play video game at least one to two hours a day. I've played a lot of video games that contain violent scene. Even when I was 13, I played a video game that was rated M (mature). And I also admit that when I play a video game, I curse. But do all of that make me a violent person? I don't think so.

I don't beat someone for a video game. I never shoot a person (I don't even want to) as I try to imitate the action in all of those games. Stabbing your friend over a game console is one of the most stupid things I've ever heard. Video game doesn't NEED to be banned because of that guy. That guy NEEDS a therapy or anger management program.

People should be able to differentiate the difference between what's real and what's not. But the sad thing is some people can't. Some people tend to get carried away when they're playing a video game (I've seen a dude beating his best friend because of DOTA/ Warcraft) . They got too involved- emotionally.

A video game doesn't change a person from a nice guy to a gun-carrying lunatic. It is all in the hand of the person himself. You die in the game. So what? Play it again. Don't kill people. As for the parent, they should watch their kids. Give them appropriate game title according to ESRB rating. If you're grown up but act like a kid, you need a help. The main point I would like to stress is guns don't kill people, but people kill people. Banning a video game will not reduce violence in society. It is called wasting the technology.
