Under the Sea or Floating in Space: Other Options for Burial

Some of the newest ways to bury your loved ones.

Buried Underwater at Neptune Reef Memorial

If you plan on your final resting place being a watery one, you can go to Neptune Reef Memorial from the Neptune Society. This reef is the largest man-made reef that doesn't pollute and allows marine life to continue to live in the ocean. It is a beautiful training ground for students of marine biology. It is a great place for scuba divers to explore. The reef is off Key Biscayne in Miami. The environmentally friendly reef is 16 acres of open water.
The cremated remains will be buried in the concrete structures of the reef. Prices vary by the feature and location of the reef.

Divers are welcome to go scuba diving here. You can also go on glass bottom boat tours and snorkeling.

Buried In Space

If you want to be in space to continue your journey, chose Celestis. This service sends a portion of your loved one's cremation remains into space. There is a choice of a 1 gram capsule or a 7 gram module to put the ashes in. You could send it on an Earth Rise Service, which sends capsules or modules into space to return to Earth. Earth Orbit Service allows for the capsules or modules to be sent into Earth's Orbit. The Lunar Service allows you to send the capsules or modules into lunar orbit. The last choice, the Voyager Service sends the remains into deep space.

There are also options for how much you want to send in space or who else you want to remains to go with. The Capsule Option has one gram of one participant put into a capsule and sent into space. The Gemini Capsule Option sends two one gram capsules into space. This option would be great for couples. The Module Option has seven grams of one participant put into a module and sent into space. The Gemini Module Option sends two seven gram modules into space.

For couples, if one has already passed away, their remains can be kept in a safe in a bank until the other is ready to go.

As many as 150 of the deceased have had space burials. Several famous people including Gene Roddenberry, Timothy Leary, Eugene Shoemaker and James Doohan have been sent into space.
