What is Death Really?

Is it a finality or a transition?

What is death?  Is death the complete cessation of the existence of a person?  Does a person cease to exist completely in all forms when he/she dies, or could it be that only the physical body ceases to exist.  Could it be that the consciousness of a dead person lingers on?  We all have asked these questions at some point of time or another.  The reason we seek to know the answers to questions like these is because we just don't know what death is -  do we??  No one has been to the other side and returned back to tell us what happens after death.  So, we wonder on and question on, and seek to find and theorize and put forth our concepts on death.  And we wonder if death is a finality?

My personal view is that death is not a finality.  I believe that death is but a transition to another form.  That form, I believe, is energy.  From a scientific perspective, we all know the relation between mass and energy as made famous by Einstein's famous equation.  We know for example that something cannot just disappear completely.  It usually just transitions to another form.  There is an inherent balance in nature.  There is an inherent constant.  There is that recyclable, renewable process that goes on all the time in nature.

I believe much the same goes on in the process of death and thereafter.  I believe death is but a transition in the substance of a human being from being a creature composed of mass to one that is composed of energy.  The recyclable, renewable process is, I believe, rebirth.  It makes sense.  Birth - death - rebirth.  A balance is maintained at all times.  The total sum of mass remains constant.  When I view things in this way, I can't help but think that death isn't a finality.  Death has to be a transition to another form, most likely energy.

This is a very profoun article. I really love your explaination.
I too believe death is a transition. It\\\'s a transition from death to the spiritual world. The worlds we call Heaven in Hell. I believe that spiritual connection has an effect on the ones who aren\\\'t dead yet whether it\\\'s positive or negative. If you are going just by science then energy is the perfect answer, but when you throw religion and spirituality in their than it just can\\\'t be cut and dry. I did a great job of making me think. I am just offering my opinion and I hope nothing personall is taken from it. I would like it if you read some of my work and respond as well.

Yes, death is a transition, no one denies that. Energy doesn\'t cease it just changes....but....and this is a very big but....so what if our atoms change and get recycled? What matters when it comes to an afterlife or finality is what aspects of OURSELVES survives? Is our energy concsious? If so then that falls into the realm of science in terms of what can be proven or disproved. In my opinion we have 4 results.

1 - Our energy changes form but does not retain identity, therefore we cease to exist

2 - Our energy changes form and we are able to retain identity (perhaps via an understanding of quantum entanglement??)

3 - Our afterlife has nothing to do with energy making a transition but a supernatural aspect
