Disability Resources and Advocates

Resources for parents that have children with disabilities including autism, attention deficit disorder, and behavior and learning disorders.

The best way to help your child or someone else’s child that has a developmental disability is to get involved. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help! Ask for support and surround yourself with people who understand. Trust me! As a parent with three teenagers that have autism, my wife and I could have never made it this far without seeking out others such as support groups and educators. This is one of the best ways I knew how to make a friend with someone who truly understands.

I put together a small list of national websites to help parents educate themselves and advocate for their loved one. Special Olympics is a great place to start. Regardless of what your child’s disability, there is always something for them with this great organization. This is an excellent place for parents to meet new friends who share the same goals, frustrations, and desires for their child.

This link is a national resource for parents and educators entirely dedicated to Autism Research and outlet programs. This resource claims that the Center for Disease Control is having difficulties dispelling the connection between the MMR shot and Autism. This link has scheduled updated conferences.

Apparently, there are studies being done with primates by injecting them with various vaccinations to see if they can replicate the autism connection.

Devereux is a nationally known non-profit organization dedicated to autism, attention deficit disorder, behavioral and learning disorders. There are several sub-links to training, research and various articles related to these disorders.

Great job, Chris. I am sure this will give many parents just starting out on thier childs' "disease road" a great place to start.

I do not care what anyone says. Autism has got to be linked to some enviro factor that is universal for children. Too many have autism for it not to connected to something that falls into that catagory. Like.....vaccinations. I am glad more research is being done.

What a wonderful and caring piece. Trust me Chris, you and Jo Oliver are such great crusaders and activists on Triond. I love your pieces. They are always so educational and they inform me, as well as others, about things we need to do to help when we can.

Well done, Chris. One can never have enough resources when it comes to dealing with disabilities, especially in children. :)
