(contd.)

One of the requirements for filing pension disability is that you file for social security disability within ninety days of filing for your pension disability or you lose your eligibility for pension disability. If I hadn't been reading through our union contract I wouldn't have known. I thought someone from the union would have called to help walk me through this process after all I had been out of work for almost a year. No one called me and I realized was on my own.

Waiting desperately for a decision about my pension disability I had to depend on the only money coming in which was from workers compensation. After being awarded my pension disability I had to wait six months before receiving my first check. Mean while month after month my pay checks from worker's compensation went up and down. The Independent Medical Examiner states the degree of disability each time you visit which was once every six weeks for me. His reports effect the amount you receive weekly.

My savings were quickly disappearing, savings accounts, checking accounts, 457 plan, bonds and my extra pension plan I paid into were exhausted. I couldn't imagine what I would have done with out my savings. Thanks to my girlfriend who went to churches once a week to get food because I was embarrassed.

My medical plan and disability insurance ended after a year of being disabled. I was out of work and scared. I was forced to move back to the town where I grew up in after being away for thirty years. No medical plan, no job and little money I searched around for medical help. I suffer from hyper tension and high cholesterol. I was in trouble medically. I went to a free clinic after running out of blood pressure and cholesterol medication. The clinic told me my blood pressure was high and that I would have to be hospitalized if they couldn't lower it. They lowered it and continued helping me. I continued to get help from the free clinic as I began writing this book.

I have been waiting for a total of nine months for my pension disability, after being denied because of surgery. Thanks to God for giving us a union contract with medical benefits upon retirement I just made it! We went on strike one year before I lost my job and won medical benefits for life.

I wrote this book hoping to help other people in similar situations. I hope to help those people who have no idea where to turn and no clue of where to start. In the chapters of this book I want to give information that will comfort all of you with disabilities and help those who don't know how to survive it. I hope to prepare and give knowledge and strength to everyone who needs help and guidance. Thanks to my lord and savior Jesus Christ. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.

Thanks to my loving girlfriend Patricia, my brother and best friend Kevin, good friends Arnold, Byron, Louis, Tony and many other friends who supported me through these tough and challenging times.

Disability Insurance

People go to work unaware of the dangers in the work place. These dangers are often not seen until it's too late.

It's common to be moving to fast or not paying attention to the things around you. We become preoccupied and forget about what's going on around us. Work places demand that we stay alert and watch where we are walking at all times. There is always the chance that you will miss something and that's when accidents happen. The single most important thing to have is disability insurance because you never know when an accident could happen to you.

Accidents in the work place happen every day and you can become a victim. It's important to protect your self. Remember no one can take care of you better than you.

Protect your self by taking out disability insurance when you're first hired. Disability insurance can literally

save your life and provide your family with financial security. The longer you wait for your insurance money the

more financial stress you and your family will have to endure. Choose a plan that pays you within the first two weeks of an accident.

Take the maximum amount of disability insurance this ensures that you and your family will be financial secure through out your disability. It's better having more money especially when you're disabled and can't provide for you and your family.

Personal savings bank accounts, 457's, 401k's, bonds and other investments should only be used as a last resort. No one wants to spend money from their personal life savings or retirement funds. There are employers who allow their employees to take out loans on there pensions and 457's and 401k plans. Think carefully before taking money from your savings or investments. This money is often irreplaceable.
