Motorsports, American Excess, Economics and the Oil Dilemma

I like Nascar as much as the next man, but sometimes, I do have to wonder if they are wasting precious fuel that we could be using for better more worthwhile causes.

I like Nascar as much as the next man, sometimes, I do however have to wonder if they are wasting precious fuel that we could be using for better more worthwhile causes. I am not saying put Jeff Gordon or any of those drivers out of work, just give them more financial benefits for each race while drastically decreasing the amount of races they do.

In other words, save the gasoline, reduce Nascar's race load, and to compensate pay them as if their race load was still the same. I believe that would drastically reduce the amount of fuel used on an annual basis and would help solve the oil dilemma we are facing. I understand Nascar fans might be a little disappointed if races were reduced, but ultimately the sacrifice would be worthwhile.

I am not very adept at the field of economic strategy, but common sense says to me

"Don't waste what is already lacking." I may just be one voice, but if I can make a difference then I will try my hardest to do so.

As far as the average Joe, there are ways we can help solve the oil dilemma as well.

Such ways include not traveling as much, carpooling if we do travel, not using gas powered appliances as much, instead of making multiple trips into town for groceries, buy in bulk, there are many other ways to be efficient. This country is spoiled so whether they would actually give up their vices and excesses (even for a short period until gas prices and such are stablized) is hard to say.

I will say however it is in our best interest not to splurge frivolously, just Food for thought,

How about getting them to switch to 'green' fuel instead?

We are all going to have to save if cheap fuel doesn't happen .Let's hope it does happena and will be non polluting.

Jupiter you have made some very good points. We need to also find alternative fuels, and walk or ride bike more. It's healthier and more economic. I've seen people hop in their cars to go two blocks.

I thought they were trialling a 'greener' fuel too!
