10 Things They Never Teach in School

Wish you could start school over again with some added subjects? Here are some suggestions for extra classes they missed the last time.

After almost 20 years of being in school, there are some things I wished they taught me before I graduated.

How to manage money

In school, they teach maths and how to calculate when Mrs Smith sold 3 apples for $2 and made a profit of 50 cents. How many apples must Mrs Smith sell so that she makes a profit of $5? But what happens after Mrs Smith gets her profit?

How to make friends

They just sit you at your table on the first day of school and just leave it to you to fend for yourself.

How to manage bullies

Report it to the teacher. Then you'd be labelled a "snitch"! Who wants to be friends with someone who carries tales?

How to cope with being an outcast

They can correct the children who are being the "bully" but what about the victim? They could have enrolled him in some self-defence class or some class for deportment.

How to dress right

There is no class to guide us how to choose the right clothes for our individual body types, or the right hair style, or the way to stand, or…

How to read body language

Then we wouldn't be second guessing what the other guy is thinking!

How to recognize scams

There are con jobs online as well as face to face. We will only realize it when its too late.

How difficult parenting is

The actual abortion process

The rate of abortion procedures are on the rise. This together with #9 will get the teen thinking. This will horrify some of you, but abortion is horrifying!

How difficult it is to get a job after spending time in jail

Very important facts. Another one is that: The people that you try so hard to impress in school, after school they won't matter anymore because chances are, you will never see them again. So don't put all your effort in trying to impress them. I know I sure haven't seen any of my old classmates. It's like they all have disappeared. I wish I wouldn't have cared so much back then. I would have been better off.

Rebecca, you are absolutely right! By if you try telling your child this, will they understand? Shucks, even if you told me when I was a child, I wouldn't have believed you either! :)

well, lets see...how to manage bullies, found that easy, I just thumped everyone...body language is too complex for kids - if someone raises their fist at you, run away or beat them to a pulp...dress, well I dress any old how, that's always been right for me...you have to admit, no one in this world knows how to manage money, or has absolute control over their own money or attitude to money, no one, so it can't be taught, just have to muddle along...I've never been in jail and don't intend to go, nor have i EVER HAD A JOB, NOR DO i INTEND TO GET ONE, SO i'M OK FOR THAT ONE...scams are good for us...I like being an outcast, reminds me how different and special I am!...friends? Everybody loves me, that's fine...parenting is much easier when you employ one nanny per child, you know it makes sense...personally I get on well with children, I always let them have all their own way, they get so tired of that after a day or two they become quite tame, it's really true!...children don't phase me at all, I've been a teacher for 15 years and very serene...and before you ask, I have 4 fostered children...and thoroughly enjoy the squabbling! Keep light hearted and sing all day, you'll soon find yourself alone and untroubled, hehe! ;)

Very nice article. I especially agree with "how to manage money", many of the math skills I learned in school will probably never be put to use. Learning how to manage money in the real world would be helpful! A class I sure could have used in elementary/highschool was "how to overcome shyness"...I know it really affected me!
