A Celebration of Report Cards

These two youngsters brought home perfect report cards and were rewarded with a supper in their honor, compliments of Uncle Tommy and Aunt Jean.

We were invited to a supper in celebration of good report cards last Saturday night. My grandson James, and granddaughter Sarah had brought home excellent report cards so their uncle Tommy, and Aunt Jean gave a supper in their honor. My granddaughter spent the day with me and although I was told very firmly not to cook any food, we made cheesy macaroni and peach pie cake. Sarah rode with Lionel and I to the supper. She was going to be the photographer using my camera. The problem was her Aunt Jean gave her a camera, and when we left I only had three pictures. No problem, I will have more chances to make pictures.

James drove his mom and dad. He will get his driver's license the last of this month so he practices driving every chance he gets. He had cleaned his uncle Tommy's Ukon and it was spotless. He and I went out and looked it over. Sarah came out to take our picture but she didn't get one she was satisfied with. We had our mouth hanging open or our head turned the wrong way. She decided she would just go to the back yard and look for deer. Deer do come in the yard but she didn't find one.

I am on a low potassium diet and Tommy had called me to ask what I could eat. I told him not to worry about that, I would find something I could eat, that was one reason I made macaroni, I knew I could eat that, and the peach pie cake. I don't want anyone to have to prepare anything special for me because as I told Tommy, I will find something.

Tommy had made his special chili, a huge pot; Jean made vegetable soup, and corn bread. Dianne brought red velvet cake and cherry pie so even without what I brought, we had plenty of food. I ate macaroni, and a little of the chili (which I wasn't supposed to have) I only had a little, and red velvet cake.

James told us a story about the time he was hit in the head with a coke bottle at school and gave us all a good laugh, (it wasn't funny at the time.) A girl was shaking the wet bottle and it flew out of her hand, and hit James in the head. He had to go to the principles office to explain why he had a bloody head. The girl was sent home, and James's mom was called to take him to the doctor's office. It was funny the way James told it.

We all had a good time although Lionel had worked all day and was tired. We had to leave in time to get home before dark. Tommy offered to drive us but it wasn't necessary.

We had wanted to have a celebration dinner for our soldier boys who were home a few weeks back but it didn't happen. Grandson Daniel was home on his rest leave from Iraq, and brother Alan flew in for the weekend from Texas to see him. Alan was sick when he arrived and wasn't able to go anywhere, and Dan stayed with him. I am afraid Daniel was just as stressed when he left as when he arrived. He will be in Iraq until next May if nothing happens. Alan will get his discharge from the Army in Feb.

Any way our holiday season is off to a good start. Next Sunday we will have early Thanksgiving dinner with my siblings and all the family in Summerville, and the next Sunday we will have our Thanksgiving dinner here for my immediate family, on Thanksgiving day we will have dinner with Lionel's family at his son David's house. We always have three or four dinners for each Holiday. Hooray for the Holidays, Happy thanksgiving, and Merry Christmas to all.

Your story makes me miss my childhood. I miss the warm family days we shared during the holidays. Now I am always at work. Your stories are so descriptive that one feels like he or she is there.
Very good writing.

I found your j-walk definition and posted it in a comment, and have remembered more old sayings. I loved yours and it brought back lots of memories. Do you mind if I submit them, or would you like the list?

I will pray for the safe return of your grandsons. I just had a nephew return, and I served during Viet Nam. No combat - women did not fight at that time, but I saw an experienced things I would have preferred not to, such as men diving under the mess hall tables because someone dropped their tray.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments, and Judy, of course you go ahead and publish the " old sayings" you have. I would love to read them. Thank you for your prayer, and for your service in Vietnam. I appreciate so much all our men and women who lay their lives on the line for us. Thank you again for your prayers.
