If the student wants to get good results he might want to apply the following rules and make them routine. Then of course he will have developed good study habits. The way to getting good results on exams starts in the home and the student also has to be conscious of a need to be more accountable at school. The person has to be aware of the need to change before any positive changes are going to occur.
So the bettering of study habits at home has to be backed up by finding a better way to participate in class. Here is a list of things the student should apply if he is going to be a better academic performer.
- The student should take good notes in class. If he does he will have something worthwhile to refer to when reviewing them at home. If they are too sketchy he may have difficulty understanding what he wrote.
- The student should sit as close as possible to the front of the class. This will keep him from falling asleep, especially if the class is early.
- The student to partake in class discussions regarding a particular subject being discussed. This will allow himself to understand how sound his ideas are.
- Asking questions and getting answers is a good way for the student to question any of the material he wants to understand better and clear any doubts
- It is equally important for the student to take sufficient breaks. This would allow him to consolidate information taken in class. Some distraction is important for the person to avoid information overload.
- Reviewing the notes that are taken in class permits the student to bring up any questions for the next class or check what may have been left out
- The student should arrange a mock test with other colleagues so as to prepare for any quiz or exam if that is on the program
- If the teacher wants essays instead of test results than the pupil should of course know where he stands regarding his ability to write an essay and express his ideas properly
- It doesn't hurt for the student to make sure he is following the required program and is not going off on a tangent. He should also learn to keep focused when it comes to note taking and answering questions on a written test.
- Cheating in class and on exams, stealing notes and other counter-productive behaviour should always be avoided. Cheating will not pay in the long run and neither will bringing crib notes on an exam.
- Tardiness should also be avoided. If the person is late on assignments that is going to leave a negative impression on the teacher and usually means that the student has not learned how to manage his time.
