You might know where the North Pole is, maybe even the South Pole, but where is the Cold Pole, and why is it called the “Cold Pole”? Well, maybe because it’s the coldest populated part of our Earth.
Now, officially the coldest point is in the Republic Saha, Russia. Within the territory of the republic there is the official Cold Pole in The Northern hemisphere, which is near Oimyakon, and village Tomtor with a temperature recorded at the lowest level of -71.2C.
This place is worth visiting. It is something to do at least once in a life-time. Those people who have been to the place can be called "True subjugators of Earth". I did not had chance to visit village Tomtor, but I was in the village Handyga Tomponsky Ulus which is Very cold too -55-60 deg. C, but not as cold as the Oimyakon. The distance from Tomtor is about 200 kilometers. I also visited Yakutsk- the capital of the republic of Saha... That Was time when this area (Republic Saha) used to be belong to the Soviet Union. Now population of village 9800. Ethnic groups in the area include Russians, Yakuts, Aleuts, Chukchies, Soholiars (having both Russian and Yakut roots). At the time of my visit the village had neither running water nor a sewage system. They used to deliver water to customers by trucks from Aldan River without any treatment. My hotel did not have toilet rooms, but instead the toilet was outside of the building: a hole in the ground and protected around with the very light wall, which had a gap.
From the bottom of the wall to the grade level- it is hard to imagine for Americans this kind of "contraction" especially in the winter time. But now you can see progress in developing of this village.
They've build large sport complex "Alrosa", Jewelry factory, Row enrich material company. E.T.C. This area is known as build in permafrost condition. All buildings build on the piles. All networks like water supply sewerage, gas systems Build above ground on the piles and with warm "sputnik" around pipes. The fur hunting and fishing take the most important place among the Means of subsistence. The sables, polar fox, red squirrel, and the rare sorts of fish that can be found in the country attract the hunters and Adventurers. The fame of the high quality furs manufactured by these hunters and the fish caught are well known all over the world.
One Of the most important resources of Yakutistan (Saha) is the underground richness. The minerals extracted in the country are diamond, gold, gas, Coal, silver and copper. Every year in March a traditional tourism festival is held at the Cold Pole. It unites experienced travelers who can be Regarded as true explorers of the World. Even Santa Claus, of Lapland, and Russian Ded Moroz , of Veliky Ustug , have visited and founded Their residences here. There are countless possibilities for decisive travelers to explore this romantic wilderness.
How All This Began?
In January 1990 California Angler, the magazine for fresh and saltwater fishing wrote: "FLY-FISHING SIBERIA.
California Angler magazine publisher Bill Ray journeyed to Siberia late this past summer to become one of the first Americans to fish for a host of Unique Siberian Salmons - including giant Taimen and Lenok. This special pair of stories details the planning and gear that went into this successful Trip and, in diary form, his experiences and impressions of the journey. With walls coming down throughout the world's Communist countries, Asia Is likely to be a new frontier for sportsmen seeking new fishing and hunting adventures."
