One of the main concerns of the society today is the how the youth today value their human sexuality. Many of them don't have the right belief on how they should value their sexuality. One of the main reasons why the youth have this kind of misconception is their lack of proper education. Education today has focused not so much on these things (human sexuality, morality, etc.). The main concern today is to train the youth to become more educated on the becoming successful after college.
Parents' Role
Parents play a big role in educating their kids, especially about the human sexuality. Parents usually have made a great job in this very simple task. But the problem arose when they learned things about how liberal the youth are in the other countries. Another thing why parents have changed is that there is a new generation of parents today. They have replaced the old style of upbringing which is one of the biggest problems why there is an issue on how the people value their sexuality.
It is a reality that people change as time passes. However, on how they educate their children should not be taken for granted because this problem would get even worse if the people don't do something about this. There are already many negative effects of this problem, one of which is the increasing abnormal sexual acts in the country. Examples of which are sodomy, pedophile, necrophilia, nymphomania, etc.
Media: Source of Info... On What?
The parents are not the only ones who should be blamed about this problem on human sexualit. Media also is one of things that should be taken into considerations. Kids have become so inclined into reading magazines, watching t.v., and listening to the radio. Since the parents have become so lenient on their children, they already have a very easy access on these things. Thru the media, the youth and other adults get the information on many immoral acts such as the unusual sexual acts. The media is very influencing, that the youth get addicted to it and they even do it in reality just because of curiosity.
One of the easiest ways that the people get this kind of information is the internet. There are a lot of sites on the internet that the youth could gather these and thus making their way of thinking on human sexuality very different. According to recent surveys, kids even as young as ten years old could have access on these things. Even at that very young age, their minds are already corrupted just because of media. One of the highest selling magazines today is the FHM, which contains many things about different sexual acts and other lustful things.
Schools: “Academic Liberalism”
The third party that should be considered today is the schools today, which is one of the reasons there is problem on the way people value their sexuality. Teachers today have not been so focused in teaching their students about the morality and human sexuality. They kept on insisting their students to become great professionals. Instead of the parents leaving their job of educating their children about living life, it is already the other way around. The teachers say that this kind of teaching is called “academic freedom”. Instead of educating, teachers tolerate students to indulge and distort their thought of human sexuality - that it is very alright and safe to perform sexual acts as long as you follow guidelines.
Another problem that the people face, besides the misleading education, is the sexual liberation which is what the media really is influencing the people nowadays. This liberation on sex makes the condition on human sexuality much worse.
Families today have been greatly affected by this problem. The devaluation of the human sexuality has caused many problems within the family. But before explaining and briefing on the problems that the family experience, human sexuality must first be defined and explained according to the people and the Church.
Human Sexuality
The term human sexuality has been usually connected to the things about sexual acts. People think that their sexuality is just about having sex and getting pleasure out of this. However, the most basic connection to the human sexuality is either the masculinity or felinity of a man or a woman, respectively. Human sexuality plays a big role in differentiating the women from the men.
Another institution that also emphasizes that the human sexuality is a major aspect in the lives of the people is the Church. As for the Catholic Church, human sexuality is the way to which man and woman could perfect themselves thru the conjugal communion and marriage, thus it must be with their own free will. For the church, the human sexuality has already been ordained with a purpose. Its main purpose is for the unity of both woman and man and procreation which is also one of the main purposes of conjugal communion.
