Do kids really read anymore? Well I'd have to say yes. Because I've found it that children's books sell better then the books that are intended for more mature audiences. So that means that at least we know that America's youth is still reading. Highly know author R.L. Stine has sold over 250 million books with is award winning series Goosebumps.
So even with all the knew video games and the internet it would seam that kids are still taking a peek under the cover. And this makes me very happy. Knowing that America's youth is still reading. (Most of it anyway) there are some cases where I know you won't find any books. Like the more gang controlled places.
But even though there are a lot of new ways for kids to be entertained, children's books are still flying of the shelves! And I really don't see that slowing down a pit in the near future.
And just because someone is a gamer, doesn't mean that he or she doesn't like to read. I play video games a lot and still find time to read a book or two. And the really awesome thing is that if it wasn't for a Star Wars book my dad bought me many years back, I never would have started writing.
So when it comes to America's youth and books, I think that the two go hand and hand. But you should still encourage your child to read more. Give him or her a reward for each book finished back to cover. Reading is one of the best things a child can do to get ahead. Books are food for the brain. And the studies show, your kid can't get a fat enough head.
