The misuse and mismanagement of our environment have created the need for instituting environmental education measures within the framework of the Nigerian educational system in order to attempt checking this problem. The essence of this innovative curriculum design is to create a cognitive perspective and awareness in the minds of school-goers about the dangers implicit in this act of misuse.
We are therefore confronted with the problem of creating sufficient awareness and understanding amongst students so as to identify ways and means of keeping the environment in constant usefulness and productivity for the purpose of sustainable socio-economic development.

Amedu Monday, during a seminar on the environment.
Material and Methods
The study will be confined to Plateau State in the North Central Political region of Nigeria. This is one of the areas that has suffered serious and alarming proportions of environmental degradation, misuse and mismanagement in the country. The idea is to employ the stratified sampling technique to select one quarter of the secondary schools in all the seventeen local government areas of the state. As the strategy to be used will require students to identify what they regard as the best mode of environmental protection designs in their school programmes, only senior students will be used. The students will be exposed to two major strategies: “inclusion approach” and “unit study approach”.
Results
The results of the questionnaire administered to students on the above approaches will form the basis of any results and machinery for checking environmental misuse.
Discussion and Conclusion
The results which will derive from the questionnaire employed in the study will also form the basis of effective management designs for keeping the environment concerned into constant productivity for enhanced socio-economic development.
